Bitterroot Backpacking is hosting a free 8-10 mi hike up University Mountain on June 6th at 9:30 am! Our focus: Identifying wildflowers and discussing their ecological features!
We will spend roughly 4 hours hiking up and down University Mountain. The entire hike is approximately 10 miles with 1800 ft of elevation gain, but our goal is not to complete the entire hike. At minimum, we will hike at least 6 miles with 1000 ft of elevation gain, just to maximize the flower experience!
Near the halfway point of the hike, we will stop and relax for about 20-30 minutes to take in the views, eat snacks/lunch, and enjoy the flowers!
The hike is meant for anyone! There is no plan for our pace. Our main goal is to appreciate wildflowers. If we make it to the top of the mountain, then great! If not, no big deal.
Group size will be 5-12 people.
It is recommended that you wear comfortable, layered hiking clothing appropriate for the temperature that day. It is expected to be chilly in the morning and hot in the afternoon.
We will cancel the hike if it is storming/thunder storming/very windy, but if its drizzling or lightly snowing, we will still hike.
Please plan to carry water and snacks. There are no places to refill and filter water along the trail.
There are porta-potties at the trailhead, but none along the trail.
Dogs are welcome!
Look for the group standing around the Pattee Canyon trailhead sign at the start time!
