Calen Otto is a seasoned traveler who first caught the travel bug after spending a year abroad in Chile in 2014. There they visited Peru and other countries in South America for the first time, falling in love with the nature and culture. These days Calen helps make travel and alternative living more accessible through their book, blog, podcast, and social media. When they're not traveling the world you can find them living off-grid in the mountains of North Carolina.

I am not someone who normally does group trips, but Calen has a rare gift of corralling good people, good places, and good food in such a way that I’m positively hooked! This is my second experience with them, and it was my favorite so far. If you’re looking for a vegan and queer friendly group where you can hike volcanos, make lasting friends, learn about the world and your place within it, be yourself, and have some good old fashioned FUN—then sign up asap. I feel totally cracked open and reinvigorated to follow my passions and be a more dignified human in this world. Endless thanks to Calen and all who join—we are the unruly ones!

I loved just about all the activites! Met some good people and did some things I likely wouldn’t have found out about on my own. Loved traveling with other vegans! My only complaint is some of the accommodations could have been more comfortable, but I suppose that’s part of the “unruly” experience

Calen is an incredibly thoughtful and generous host and guide! They prepared us for all the important details of the trip and also made an effort to plan tons of special little surprises throughout the adventure . Our trip together to Peru was life changing and I am forever grateful! I will definitely be joining for another trip in the future!

I had a wonderful time in Peru!! Amozonas was absolutely amazing (Dani is one of a kind, and his impact on wildlife, conservation efforts and indigenous communities is deep) , we felt well cared for and made so many incredible discoveries! Callen made us feel welcome and included, and everything was handled for us beautifully. I very much appreciated having vegan food available so I didn’t have to worry about that part of my trip! Will do one with them again in the future for sure!!

It was an adventure of a lifetime. I'll never forget the hummingbird sanctuary and the amazing animals of the Amazon infact I feel inspired to get a hummingbird tattoo as a fab memory of this amazing trip. The edges of my comfort zone felt pushed and stretched on the trip but in a really good way. The general atmosphere created amongst the group was of kindness & compassion what amazing memories have been made. I find Calen and what they are doing very inspiring.
