Nairobi to Maiyan

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Nairobi along the A2 highway to the beautiful Maiyan Luxury Resort in Nanyuki. Arrive in time for lunch and settle into your accommodation before your trek begins. Spend the afternoon relaxing, checking your trekking gear, and hydrating while enjoying the tranquillity of beautiful Kenya. This comfortable first day allows your body to unwind before ascending Mount Kenya.

Maiyan Resort to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp

After breakfast, enjoy a short drive to Sirimon Gate where your Mount Kenya adventure officially begins. The trail gently winds through montane forest and bamboo zones, offering excellent opportunities to spot wildlife and colourful birdlife. A gradual ascent leads you to Old Moses Camp, providing an ideal introduction to high-altitude trekking.

Old Moses Camp to Liki North Camp

Today's trek is intentionally paced to maximise acclimatisation. Following the peaceful Liki North Valley, you'll gradually climb beyond the 3,500-metre mark without overexertion. Surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery and fewer crowds, Liki North Camp offers a quiet and rewarding overnight stay.

Altitude: 3,300 m to 3,993 m

Liki North Camp to Shipton's Camp

Cross the ridgeline into the spectacular Mackinder Valley as the towering peaks of Mount Kenya come into full view. Arriving at Shipton's Camp around lunchtime gives you the afternoon to rest, hydrate, and allow your body to continue acclimatising in preparation for higher elevations.

Altitude: 3,993 m to 4,200 m

Shipton's Camp to Austrian Hut

Today's steady ascent takes you over Hausberg Col and through the rugged alpine landscape of Simba Col before traversing beneath Mount Kenya's dramatic main peaks. Arrive at Austrian Hut, your final high-altitude camp, where a carefully paced ascent throughout the expedition prepares you for a comfortable night before your summit attempt.

Hiking Time: 7–8 hours

Altitude: 4,200 m to 4,790 m

Austrian Hut to Point Lenana Summit, Sirimon Gate

Rise before dawn for a short but exhilarating 45-minute ascent to Point Lenana, arriving in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over East Africa. After celebrating your summit achievement, begin the rewarding descent back to Sirimon Gate, where your driver will be waiting.

Return to Maiyan Luxury Resort to enjoy the comforts you've earned—a hot shower, a gourmet dinner, and a celebratory evening surrounded by luxury and breathtaking views.

Drive Time: Approximately 55 minutes back to the resort

Hiking Distance: 19.5 km

Altitude: 4,790 m to 4,895 m (Point Lenana), then descent to 2,600 m

Maiyan Luxury Resort to Nairobi

Drive Time: Approximately 3 hours 45 minutes

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking the beautiful Lolldaiga Hills before checking out mid-morning. Relax on the scenic drive back to Nairobi, where you'll be transferred to your hotel, the city, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, bringing your unforgettable Mount Kenya expedition to a close.
