Join us on our first-ever La Paz tour! On this 3-night & 4-day adventure, you’ll base yourself off of this laidback spot on the shores of Baja California Sur, Mexico, where you will go snorkeling with Sea Lions in their natural habitat as well as spend some time with Gray Whales. Embark on a journey from Puerto Chale to the gray whale’s hangout place so you can watch them as they train their young calves in the warmer waters of the Mexican Pacific. Gray whales prefer the warm waters in Mexico to engage in mating, which is a sight to see in itself.
If that is not magical enough, you will also visit the resident sea lion colony in Isla Espiritu Santo, where you will have the chance to snorkel with the dogs of the sea. They are super curious and playful, especially the young ones! If you are lucky, they may tap you with their fins as they try to get your attention. However, please note that as with all wild animals, sea lions and other wildlife will approach us at their own will and we cannot guarantee up-close interaction. During our visit, we will also stop at Balandra Beach, a protected area where you’ll see the famous stone mushroom. Balandra Beach is home to many microorganisms as well as fauna. It is considered a nucleus-protected area, having the highest level of conservation status in Mexico. To end our day, we will have a delicious lunch cooked by our local chef at Playa Ensenada Grande.
The cherry on top? All of our itineraries are designed by vegans and vegetarians, for vegans and vegetarians. We believe in respect towards all sentient beings and therefore, we choose to run and design experiences that benefit local economies, family businesses, and minority-owned entrepreneurships but above all, trips that contribute to the protection and conservation of our fellow earthlings and their habitats.

Our day starts really early in the morning (06:30) so grab your coffee and get ready to experience not one, but two whale watching boat rides off of the shores of Puerto Chale. Puerto Chale is about 2.5 hours away from La Paz and it is a very small fishing town with barely any tourism infrastructure. Please make sure you take everything you need including sunscreen and snacks. An on-the-go breakfast will be provided for you, but we always encourage guests to have some snacks of their own as well as water. Examples of on-the-go breakfasts are vegetable burritos, chilaquiles with refried beans and fruits.
We will leave our B&B at 06:30am in order to get a good head start and get to Puerto Chale as reasonably early as possible. Whales like to start their days early, especially when training their calves for survival, so starting our day to match their own is often rewarded with a viewing full of whale action.
At Puerto Chale, we will embark on first our whale watching adventure. We will be out in open sea for 2 hours observing the gray whales. Our guide will give you thorough information about the biology and behavior of whales. When in doubt, ask away! All of our guides are biologists, ethologists, marine biologists or wildlife experts who are extremely knowledgeable about the area and its fauna.
After our 2-hour mark, we will head back to the port and wait for about 30 to 40 minutes for our next trip. Once we are finished with our second whale watching expedition (another 2 hours long) lunch will be served at a family-run eatery. Examples of included lunches are mushroom or potato sopes, tacos dorados de papa, vegan (or veggie) red or green enchiladas, rice, beans, and various salads. These are all examples only and are subject to change without notice. We return to La Paz around 5pm.
The evening is free for you to explore La Paz.
MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast lunchbox, lunch.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDED: Two (2) whale watching expeditions.
After a nice breakfast at our B&B, we will leave for our Espiritu Santo Island tour. We will depart around 10:00 am and head over to the local dock in La Paz. You will have an opportunity to rent a neoprene suit (200MXN) since water can be quite chilly during February and March. You will also be given a water-resistant bag for your phone. We will have a brief introduction with our guide and head out to open water.
During the tour, our guide will explain the interesting history and geography of the area. We will see some interesting rock formations product of millions of years of erosion. Our first stop will be Balandra Beach: a protected area where you’ll see the famous Balandra mushroom. Note that we are limited to 20 minutes total at Balandra Beach due to its protected status. Next, we will head over to the sea lion colony! La Lobera.
La Lobera is home to hundreds of sea lions of all ages. They are used to human interaction and the young ones go out of their way to put on a show! Our snorkeling with the sea lions is approximately 30 minutes as to not overstimulate the wildlife and keep it healthy. Finally, we will head over to Playa Ensenada Grande, a secluded beach where you’ll have a fresh & tasty lunch made by our local family in La Paz. Lunch examples are vegan ceviche, mango & spinach salad, fresh fruits, fresh water, falafel, hummus, and vegan sandwiches. These are all examples only and are subject to change without notice. After eating, we will head back to La Paz (approximately 1.5 hours)
Your tour leader may suggest a farewell dinner with the group, or you can enjoy your last evening of the tour at your leisure.
