From beginning to end, our experience with Akangau was flawless. Very good communication prior to the trip, quick to answer questions and arrange pickup. During the trip, Daniel was the perfect guide - it seems there isn't any plant, animal or insect he doesn't have encyclopaedic knowledge of, and he knows the local, Spanish and English names for everything. All of the transport was on time, the lodge was a lot more comfortable than we expected, and the food was good too. When my wife was sick, Daniel even made sure to take me to the Shaman to collect some medicinal plants to make an infusion for her, which worked well. When we wanted to make adjustments to the tour to suit our specific interests or preferences, he made it happen. At the end of the trip, they helped us check bus timetables and got us to the bus station in time to make sure we left safely for Quito. Some of the trekking is quite intense at parts, so if you are unsure about this, check the details with Akangau to understand the distances/times/climbs involved. They would likely be able to adjust the standard itinerary accordingly if needed We thought the trip was very good value too, and recommended it to anyone who wants to do a jungle tour in Ecuador!

This trip was very well-organized, and so much fun! Our guide, Edison, was amazing. He brought the right amount of humor and knowledge to the trip. It was challenging, but in the best of ways! Each day was so different too, with hiking in the rainforest in the rain/wading through the river and having to hold our bags over our heads was definitely a highlight! The food was all so tasty, and just exactly what we'd hoped for this experience. Will definitely be recommending to any friends who visit Ecuador!

We spent almost 2 weeks doing different tours through Akangau. We did the route of the dreams, the grand canyon, the caves, the river rafting, a multi-day cultural experience, and the Ayahuasca shaman experience. Belén was my contact, she was always very responsive, friendly, helpful. We had a different guide on the day we did route of the dreams, Efraín was great, very knowledgeable about plants in the jungle and gave us so much interesting information about the local culture. For the remainder of our days, our guide was Daniel. Daniel is such a great guy, he took great care of us. Extremely knowledgeable about plants in the area, about the cultures and beliefs, and very extensive knowledge of the jungle. We learned so much from our time doing these different trips, we had many meaningful and interesting cultural interactions. By the end, we didn't want to go and Tena may be our favorite place in Ecuador. In fact we are thinking about volunteering to work with Akangau in the future.
