My trip to the southwest of France to participate in the "La Pause" Retreat hosted by Candace and Lisa at Domain de Mournac easily exceeded my expectations. The location at the Domain, a beautifully renovated 14th century coach house, provided participants with a private, casual, and quiet environment to come together, as well as giving us ample use of the properties amenities. Picture lush forests, birds singing, fresh fruit and nuts ripening on trees, all with an absolutely gorgeous view of the valley and village below. This setting made it easy to relax into the week, and to engage in the yoga and the daily journaling exercises. It was the perfect place to reflect, relax and reset both mentally and physically.
Along with the twice daily yoga sessions, which were varied (i.e., vinyasa, slow flow, yin, restorative) and always excellent, Candace and Lisa were thoughtful in choosing interesting and active excursions for the group to participate in. Each of the four excursions (Esperaza market, hike up Mont Sec, visit to Rennes le Chateau, and the tour & tasting at Dolmas Winery) gave us a glimpse of the beautiful region and landscape we found ourselves in, provided opportunities to engage with the locals, and helped to deepen my understanding of the long history in this part of the world. The Domain's owner, Wendy, who has extensive knowledge of the area, added much colour and context to the historical narrative.
I MUST comment on the food. Mahrie, our cook, made us the most amazing meals all week long. They were creative, healthy, delicious and satisfying. In short, the meals were fantastic each and every day and I am really missing having Mahrie around! While some memories of this trip may fade with time, I think I'll always remember how good the food was and how quiet some of our meals were (other than the "mmmmm" sounds).
Overall, this trip was well worth the effort in crossing the Atlantic and, if possible, I would do it again in the future. Great job putting this experience all together for your participants, Candace and Lisa! Mercie beaucoup!
