Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met by a Journeys by VDB representative, who will transfer you to your hotel an overnight stay.&nbsp; OPTIONAL ACTIVITY AT AN EXTRA COST:&nbsp;If your flight arrives in time in the late afternoon we will visit Giraffe Center for a hands-on giraffe encounter and educational experience on giraffe conservation.&nbsp; Located 5 km from Nairobi's city center, the Giraffe Centre offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with these friendly giants. Founded in 1979 as a core breeding center for the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, the center escalated its conservation efforts in 1983 when it opened an environmental education center for the Kenyan youth. Today, the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife deals with breeding Rothschild’s giraffes, ecology trips, trainers workshops, national environmental competitions, and funding micro-projects, it also monitors, evaluates, and produces resource materials for environmental activities.&nbsp;

Day 1

After breakfast, we will head to Wilson Airport for your flight to Masai Mara. The Masai Mara will fulfill your dreams with its iconic, endless African landscapes of golden grass dotted with picturesque acacia trees that are home to year-round wildlife viewing: cheetahs, leopards, large pride of lions, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, huge Nile crocodiles, frolicking hippos and many other species.&nbsp; We will meet our driver guide at the airstrip and embark on a game drive transfer to our camp.&nbsp; Check in and enjoy a hot lunch. Late afternoon, head out for a game drive. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Masai Mara

Day 2

After breakfast, we head out for our morning and afternoon game drive with stunning wildlife views. Enjoy a picnic lunch under acacia trees in the park.&nbsp; The Maasai Mara, a must-visit destination for safari enthusiasts and nature lovers worldwide. In the late afternoon, we will head back to the lodge for our dinner and overnight stay.&nbsp;

Day 3

Immediately following breakfast, we will depart the Masai Mara and drive past Migori to the Isebania border.&nbsp; Our driver will help you with the documentation process before handing you over to the Tanzanian driver guide. Continue with your drive to Central Serengeti with a picnic lunch en route. This is not a transfer, it is a game drive in its own right, and seeing the plains of the Serengeti for the first time is an unforgettable moment.&nbsp; Serengeti, or “Seringit” in Maa, meaning ‘endless plains’, is one of the oldest ecosystems on earth. The essential features have changed little in a million years; Serengeti’s famous plains are interspersed with wooded hills, towering termite mounds, rocky kopjes, and rivers lined with acacia trees.&nbsp; Late afternoon we head to our camp to check-in and enjoy dinner.

Day 4

Discover Serengeti National Park over a full day of game viewing, taking a picnic lunch at one of the picnic sites. The Serengeti National Park was established in 1952, however, the Serengeti ecosystem is far older and greater than the park. The ecosystem reaches over 30,000sq km/12,000sq mi and was previously inhabited by the Maasai. This is home to the famous annual migration of more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and all kinds of antelopes, following the rains undertaking their long journey to new grazing grounds. Also be on the lookout for lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas.&nbsp; In the late afternoon, we will head back to the lodge for dinner and an evening of leisure.

Day 5

Leaving at 05hr15, heading out to the launch site of the hot air balloon. This is a good opportunity to get a glimpse of some of the elusive nocturnal inhabitants of Serengeti whilst you enjoy the sunrise in the distance across the Serengeti plains. As dawn breaks, start your hot air balloon adventure. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience viewing the animals and the vast landscape of the Serengeti plains from a different perspective. Each journey is different and will be dictated by the direction of the wind. Return safely to the ground. Enjoy a glass of bubbly, then drive to a special breakfast spot where you will be treated to an exceptional bush breakfast (Activity time: 3 hours)&nbsp; From here, continue to explore the Serengeti before heading back to the lodge for lunch. Relax in the afternoon and head out for our late afternoon game drive.Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 6

After breakfast, we will check out and proceed with an on-route game drive to Naabi Hill Gate, the exit point of Serengeti National Park, where we will have a picnic lunch.&nbsp; Continue to drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Not only is Ngorongoro Conservation Area a UNESCO World Heritage Site but it is also considered one of the natural wonders of the world. It is unique in that it allows over 40,000 Maasai pastoralists with their cattle goats and sheep to live alongside the abundant wildlife in a natural setting. The conservation area gives you a rare insight into how people lived in harmony with nature and wildlife in ancient times all over the globe.&nbsp; Head to our lodge for dinner.

Ngorongoro Crater

Day 7

After an early breakfast, we will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact caldera measuring 600m/1970ft in depth and covering 250sqkms/96sqmil. It is a spectacular setting and contains an abundance of wildlife with over 20,000 large animals, including Tanzania’s remaining critically endangered black rhino. There are good chances of seeing the Big Five in this natural enclosure. Picnic lunch at the Crater.&nbsp; Ascend back onto the crater rim, exit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and drive past the highland town of Karatu, and the town of Mto Wa Mbu literally meaning 'River of Mosquito, situated adjacent to Lake Manyara National Park.Head to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight.&nbsp; While we have carefully planned and organized our itinerary, there may be circumstances beyond our control that necessitate changes to hotels, tours, or restaurants during the course of our trip. Please rest assured that should any changes occur, our priority will be to ensure that the replacement accommodation, tour, or restaurant is of equal or higher quality and standards.

Day 8

For guests who will be heading to Zanzibar, you will board a flight from Arusha Airport to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, our ground handlers will transfer us to our resort. Day 9:Spend the day at leisure, relaxing on Zanzibar's pristine beach, or take advantage of the lodge's amenities.&nbsp; In the afternoon we will head out for an afternoon sunset cruise with Mimi the Dhow. As you glide across the calm waters of the Indian Ocean, you’ll enjoy breathtaking coastline views and the golden hues of the setting sun. Relax aboard the traditional wooden dhow while sipping refreshing drinks and savoring light snacks. With some luck, you might spot dolphins swimming alongside the dhow. The peaceful sound of the ocean, combined with the gentle breeze, makes this the perfect way to wind down your day.&nbsp; Sail back to the beach and head back to our resort for dinner. Day 10:Enjoy another day at your own pace, whether relaxing by the beach, soaking in the serene surroundings, or making use of the lodge's facilities to enhance your stay. After your journey to South Africa you will arrive at King Shaka International Airport (Durban) anytime on arrival day where a VIP Group meet and greet will be ready for you outside of customs to transfer to the hotel.This evening at leisure with a cash stipend provided and your Journeys by VDB host will be at The Oyster Bar for an apertivo should you feel up to socialize (however we realize with the length of your travels, you may choose to head to your room for a shower and room service).

Sleep in or if you are up early, enjoy the beautiful breakfast spread at The Oyster Box. Later this morning we will explore Durban with a Half Day Durban City Tour. &nbsp;The ideal introductory tour of Durban, which has been shaped by the early Colonial settlers, the indigenous Zulus, and the Indians who arrived as indentured labourers in the 19th Century.&nbsp; Lunch is a special treat where we will discover the rich Indian history of Durban and experience the unique "Bunny Chow" cuisine. &nbsp;Bunny chow is a popular South African street food originating from Durban and consists of a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with curry. Originally created by Indian immigrants in Durban, bunny chow typically features spicy curry fillings such as chicken, beef, lamb, or vegetables.After an afternoon at leisure back at The Oyster Box we will enjoy dinner at our hotel in the casual, Mediterranean-inspired Ocean Terrace, with gorgeous views across the Indian Ocean, the impressive curry selection, of at least 11 curries daily, includes meat, fish and vegetarian options. Using delicate blends of spices and fresh herbs, each curry is a masterpiece in itself.

Say goodbye to the beautiful Oyster Box as well head to the African Bush! &nbsp;On our way to the gorgeous mThembu Lodge we will stop in Saint Lucia along the way. Lunch will be in the quaint beach town of Saint Lucia followed by a Hippo &amp; Crocodile Cruise through the iSimangaliso Wetlands. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, formerly known as the St. Lucia Wetlands, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, estuaries, forests, and grasslands. One of the park's main attractions is Lake St. Lucia, the largest estuarine system in Africa, which provides a habitat for hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.&nbsp; In the afternoon we will arrive at mFulawozi and proceed to an evening game drive. &nbsp;Game drives are an exhilarating experience where you board specially designed vehicles, accompanied by knowledgeable guides, to observe and encounter the diverse and majestic African wildlife in their natural habitats.Dinner and drinks will be served at the lodge when we return from the game drive.

Saint Lucia & mThembu Lodge, KwaZulu-Natal

When on safari the game drives are typically early in the morning and in the late afternoon. &nbsp; In the morning we will head out on our morning game drive. While we are exploring the African Bush in search of the Big Five, we will stop to stretch our legs and enjoy a coffee or tea out of the vehicle. &nbsp;Breakfast will be served in the lodge after we return from the Bush. The afternoon is at leisure. &nbsp;You can choose to schedule a spa treatment, explore the lodge, see about walking safari’s or other activities the lodge provides, or relax by the pool if weather permits. There will be a lunch and tea served in early afternoon prior to the evening game drive. In the late afternoon we will depart on our evening game drive. &nbsp;Towards the end of the game drive we will stop for a “sun downer”. &nbsp;A sundowner is a refreshing (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) drink taken at sunset in the African bush to end your afternoon safari game drive adventure in style: a so-called safari-inspired happy hour while enjoying the sunset on a beautiful place in the African bushDinner and drinks will be served at the lodge when we return from the game drive.

Today we will depart beautiful Hluhluwe Game Reserve and transfer to Thanda Safari Lodge. On our way to Thanda we will make a short stop at Zamimpilo Craft Market to look at (and if you’d like, purchase) all the local crafts and items the Zulu women in the area make and sell. In the afternoon we will arrive at Thanda and proceed to our evening game drive.Dinner &amp; drinks will be at the lodge after the game drive

As we depart the African Bush we will have one last chance of spotting the beautiful wildlife of KwaZulu-Natal. &nbsp;We will take our breakfast to go and transfer to King Shaka International Airport for our flight to Cape Town. Before heading to our hotel in Cape Town we will take a tour to Boulders Beach. Boulders Beach, is not only a stunning testament to South Africa's diverse coastal beauty, but it also plays a significant role in penguin conservation. As one of the few sites in the world where visitors can get up close with the endangered African penguin, it provides a unique opportunity to appreciate and understand these endearing creatures. The boardwalks ensure that humans can observe without disrupting their natural habitat. Every visit to Boulders Beach supports conservation initiatives to sustaining the habitat and ensuring the future of the African penguin.&nbsp; After our visit with the Penguins, we will head towards our hotel with a stop in Hout Bay for a dinner of some authentic fish &amp; chips. &nbsp;Nestled between the rugged peaks of the Table Mountain National Park and the azure embrace of the Atlantic Ocean, Hout Bay offers a charming blend of nature and culture. Its thriving harbor provides a bustling backdrop of fishing boats coming and going, while the nearby Mariner's Wharf offers an array of seafood delights, reflecting the town's maritime heritage.

Cape Town

Breakfast at leisure at the hotel. We will head to Table Mountain for a cable car ride to the top for some of the best scenic views in all of South Africa. &nbsp;After we descend the mountain we will be picked up by sidecars for a beautiful drive around the coast. Later in the afternoon we will head back to the V&amp;A Waterfront area for some free time to shop, walk around, or grab a drink at one of the many restaurants and bars.This evening we will have dinner at one of Cape Town’s amazing restaurants.

Day 9

Breakfast at leisure at the hotel. Today we depart Cape Town and head to the beautiful Cape Winelands. &nbsp;We will stay in the charming down of Franschhoek where we can walk to shops, restaurants, and our tours. &nbsp; This afternoon we will partake in a Food &amp; Wine walking tour in Franschhoek inclusive of all food &amp; drinks t really get a feel for the amazing gastronomy of the area. This evening will be at leisure.

The Winelands (Franschhoek)

Day 10

Today we will have an exceptional wine &amp; cuisine experience on the Franschhoek Wine Tram. &nbsp;We begin our day with a fresh coffee and beignet before heading to an unforgettable breakfast and wine pairing. Continue your journey through the vineyards on our Tram while sipping bubbles and indulging in some delicious truffles along the way. Stop to enjoy a luxurious lunch pairing at one of Franschhoek’s world-renowned wine estates, and experience the best wine and cuisine our valley has to offer!End off this incredible day with a sweet symphony of delectable desserts paired with fine wines.
