&nbsp;The&nbsp;Perhentian&nbsp;Eco-Education Project&nbsp;focuses on educating the locals on sustainable living and the tourists on&nbsp;eco-friendly travels. They also aim to produce the islands' own future&nbsp;Eco-leaders. The project works most with the local kids through their&nbsp;Eco&nbsp;Club. Rooted from Dr Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots programme, the&nbsp;Eco&nbsp;Club runs classes and activities with its members to promote conservation of their beautiful islands and marine lives and also to improve their English. You will be joining the team and the&nbsp;Eco&nbsp;Club members in their Coral Watch - where they snorkel every week to assess the health of corals in order to see the impact of pollution and tourism activities on the corals and during their Kayak Patrols - where they kayak around the village to make sure the waters are clear of rubbish and unnatural products.You will also be working with the team to plan lessons and activities to carry out lessons for the&nbsp;Eco&nbsp;Club members. Every week, the project holds classes for Senior and Junior&nbsp;Eco&nbsp;Club members. Apart from that, you will also be learning and interacting a lot with the community through Malay Dinners and Kuih Making sessions and even just in your day to day life during your volunteering as the project is located in the village and it works closely with the community. &nbsp;Our&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://youtu.be/vKbFMo1nhsE">Perhentian Marine Research Station</a> focuses on marine conservation and waste management. The work that the volunteers would be doing would be according to their dive skills. Volunteers will focus on 'Conservation in Action’, which will include reef cleans, ‘diving against debris’, fish surveys, coral reef surveys and maintaining our coral nursery.&nbsp;You will also be involved in the waste management part of the project whereby you would be aiding the team at their education booth at Long Beach to educate both locals and tourists alike how to better manage their waste and even working with our Precious Plastic machine which we use for educational purposes to show the locals and groups that come to join us what we can make from plastic wastes. Volunteers will also be involved in beach cleanups every week with our other sister projects on the island. If you are&nbsp;a qualified diver, you may volunteer for a minimum of 1 week. However, if you&nbsp;do not have a diving license, you may take a dive license before joining us OR take your diving license when volunteering with us. Volunteers for our&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.fuze-ecoteer.com/astra-portfolio/turtle-volunteer-conservation-project/">Perhentian Turtle Project </a>will be assisting our team in their daily tasks such as doing kayak surveys i.e kayaking at specific spots and free dive upon spotting a turtle to take photo ID of it, go on night patrols at the nesting beach we protect to protect mama turtles laying its eggs and to deter poachers from stealing turtle eggs, participate in educational and awareness talks held by the team at our stakeholders' site to educate locals and tourists alike about sea turtles conservation and you will also help in analyzing the photo IDs taken and updating our turtle database.&nbsp;If you have more inquiries, please contact our volunteer liaison leader, Siti via whatsapp at +60169359901
