I enjoyed a well-rounded retreat with House of Insight at a beautiful venue in Scarborough in the Western Cape. We enjoyed incredible views of the ocean and hilltop behind us which set the tone for the rest of our stay. The wild nature element was ever present and provided a harmonious container that made me feel incredibly grounded and safe. The food was incredible. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to think about feeding myself for as long. A welcome relief with the added benefit of being supremely nourished. I found the yoga classes to be of a high standard. Having a yoga teaching qualification myself, I was fairly sceptical but was pleasantly surprised. The mindfulness and meditation techniques were practical and easy to follow upon my return to the default world. It was great to share space with other women who seemed to be in a similar headspace. One should never underestimate the power of community. I opted for the surfing lessons as part of my stay with HOI and found the coach, Tash, to be knowledgeable and encouraging. If it weren't for the five or so underway new hobbies I am nursing at this time I would be buying a board and wetsuit! Overall my stay at House of Insight was a much-needed break from my daily life. One where I could truly turn down the noise generated from the crushing pressures of reality and tune into my own breath, re-group my thoughts and sleep 8 hours a night. While there was certainly physical activity (which was a relief considering my ADHD) I was left feeling totally refreshed and well rested.
