We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The group size of 8 worked well - big enough to meet interesting people but not too big so it made logistics difficult. Mark was excellent as a pilot/guide. His enthusiasm for the Outback was great. The commentary was very entertaining and interesting. Accommodation was comfortable.
The itinerary was good, travelling well with respect to the sun. We flew at appropriate heights for the areas so we could appreciate our surroundings. Mark did a couple of passes so that each side of the plane got to see the highlights.
It was disappointing that the window tinting on the back right window of the plane was very spotty making it very difficult to get photographs when sitting in that seat. Fortunately, I had taken far more photographs than I needed to so it wasn’t so disappointing for me on the shorter leg into Coober Pedy. If I had been in that seat from Olympic Dam to Birdsville, I would have had a different view of this trip!
However, we found WeTravel difficult to work with - not intuitive, difficult to navigate, though Linda already knows this.
We also thought, as a group, there was little communication regarding smaller details, once we were on the trip. eg - where we were staying. Innaminka had no choice, but we could have been given more details about Coober Pedy. We didn’t know where we were staying or where dinner was. Relying on a text message to one passenger could have had problems. We didn’t know about the early trip to The Breakaways. We didn’t know before the trip whether meals were included. Inclusion of drinks at dinner was a bonus and I hope we didn’t abuse that privilege.
While it was good to join the road group in Coober Pedy for the day tour, I didn’t think it was a good choice to share a table with them (as it turned out, that didn’t happen). Each group was a group and to put them together in a noisy environment could have been a bit tricky.
I thought it was necessary to see one of the underground churches in Coober Pedy. It wasn’t on the itinerary but Bronny made it happen.
Overall, we were very happy with the tour but the lack of communication during the tour was a bit frustrating.
