The Sacred Waters and Hidden Gems journey was the cultural and travel experience of a lifetime! The activities, route, timing, and pace of the tour were perfect. The multi-day journey was expertly led and interpreted by Ramon, a pre-Incan descendant and culture bearer committed to preserving and sharing his people’s heritage.
I enjoyed learning about the ground-breaking and genius astronomical, navigational, irrigation and agrarian discoveries, trade routes and life-ways of the ancestral Quecheans as we toured numerous archaeological sites around Pisac and the Cusco region. Cultural highlights included observing the anniversary celebration of Kusi Ñan Andean school and touring the campus. Our visit to the Amaru traditional community was a moving and profound - participating in a farm workday, sharing a luncheon feast of time-honored foods, and observing traditional weaving skills.
The Machu Picchu and Cusco extension further enriched the tour. Hilayne, our Quechean tour guide's shared her knowledge, passion and respect for the spiritual significance of Machu Picchu and the archaeological sites in Cusco as the journey was brought full circle.
The accommodations, service and food, and shared spaces at the Pisac Inn were outstanding. I especially enjoyed sampling traditional foods and dishes at meal-time. Abram's shuttle service safely and reliably ferried us throughout the journey.
