Nomadic Noni does not accommodate food allergies, or preferences (gluten free, vegan, pescatarian, nuts, vegetarian, etc.) Hotels and restaurants may be able to accommodate your individual needs; however, Nomadic Noni does not guarantee or warrant that your needs can be met.  

TRAVEL INSURANCE

It's always a good idea to protect your trip. Life happens. We recommend that all participants purchase travel insurance with a "cancel for any reason" option. We recommend that you purchase insurance at the time you book your trip.  Please check with your travel insurance provider for terms and conditions.  

CANCELLATION POLICY 

All cancellations must be made in writing. Deposits are non-refundable. Cancellations from 180 days and up to 120 days before departure will receive 90% of the total amount. Cancellations from 120 days and up to 90 days before departure will receive 50% of the total amount. Cancellations from 90 days to 30 days prior to departure will receive a refund of 20% of the total amount. Cancellations less than 30 days prior to departure will not be refunded. 

As a participant on any Nomadic Noni, LLC trip, it is your responsibility to make sure you are in compliance with all country, airline or vendor requirements including vaccines and other documents. No refund or credit will be issued if you fail to obtain the required documents or if there’s a sudden change in airline requirements resulting in your cancellation.  Nomadic Noni recommends that you purchase trip insurance.  All requests for cancellation must be received in writing via email at info@nomadicnoni.com. Cancellations cannot be made online.  You represent and warrant that you understand and will adhere to Nomadic Noni, LLC cancellation and refund policy. 

TRAVEL CHECKLIST

Ensure Your Passport is Valid for Travel 

- You must have a valid passport for at least six months after your scheduled return date and at least two blank passport pages. 

- Your passport should expire no less than six (6) months after your return date

• (e.g., if your return date is on June 30, 2026, then your passport should expire anytime after December 30, 2026).

Visa Processing 

- Travel visas are required to enter Ghana.

- NOTE: Passports must be sent to the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, for processing.  

- Each traveler should have their visa processed before the trip.

- There are two kinds of visas for travel to Ghana - single entry (approximately $60) and multiple-entry (approximately $100).  First-time travelers to Ghana are only eligible for single-entry visas.

Ghana doesn't currently require this but we suggest having it on hand

- We suggest keeping a copy of all your travel documents separate from your original documents.

Ensure You Have Physical Proof of Your Yellow Fever Vaccination 

- The Yellow Fever vaccine is the only required immunization to travel to Ghana apart from the COVID-19 Vaccination. 

- There may be a cost associated with obtaining your required travel immunizations. Please check with your insurance carrier. 

- You need to get your shot at least 10 days before travel if you have not already done so. You must travel with a physical copy of your yellow fever immunization card.

- If you have had a yellow fever shot, you do not need to get another shot. One shot is good for a lifetime; however, you are required to bring physical proof that you have been immunized.

Consider Bringing Malaria Pills, Imodium AD & Cipro 

-  Malaria pills are highly recommended but not required. We suggest taking malaria pills for preventative measures.

-  Traveler's diarrhea is common in a new environment with different foods and weather.  We suggest you pack Imodium AD and/or Cipro in case of diarrhea.

Create A Plan For Your Prescription Medications 

-  We highly suggest all travelers consult with their primary care physician before traveling and refill any prescriptions they may require to remain in optimal health while traveling.

Know before you Go

Please note that the first date of the trip is your arrival date.  This means that you must depart the day before if you are coming from the USA.  For example, if February 18th is your arrival date, you must actually purchase your ticket to depart the U.S. on February 17th.

Research your airfare. Find ticket prices that work for you. You can come back at any time and upload all your flight information to your account after you've registered and booked your trip. Please note that you will be flying into Kotoka International Airport (ACC). When searching for your ticket, please try to arrive in Ghana by 2pm and on your return day, choose the latest available departure time for your return.

Baggage - Each economy class passenger is allowed two 23kg (50lb) bags, a carry-on bag, and a personal bag. We don't suggest maxing out your luggage. We suggest one carry-on, one personal bag (book bag, briefcase, or purse), and one checked bag (50lb). Business-class travelers are allowed two bags at 32 kg or 70 lbs.  Extra bags or overweight bags normally cost about $200 each.

Weather - The average temperature is between 75 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Ghana year round. We encourage drinking plenty of water and dressing appropriately for the weather. 

Electric Current - The electric current in Ghana is 220 Volts and we use 110 in the US. You will need to purchase an electric converter for your electronic devices that need to be charged while you're traveling.

Phone Service - Contact your phone service provider for the best international plan. If you own your phone outright or have an additional phone that is unlocked, you may be able to purchase a SIM card for data use on a local network or a mobile wifi unit.

Currency & Spending - The currency in Ghana Cedi. The exchange rate is currently about 15 cedis to 1 dollar. This changes often. Please prepare to bring brand new $100 & $50 bills for the best exchange rate. Twenty-dollar bills get you a lower exchange rate and $10, $5, and $1 are not accepted.  Cash is King! Credit cards are widely accepted in Accra but not so much in other areas or with local vendors. If you plan to use your credit cards, please contact your bank and issue a travel advisory.

- Travel Insurance is not included, but strongly recommended. By booking this trip, you agree that Nomadic Noni is not responsible for any injuries, lost or stolen property, canceled or missed flights, or death. You agree not to sue or hold Nomadic Noni accountable for any previously mentioned.  

- Nomadic Noni will not provide refunds or trip/tour credits if you opt out of or miss any scheduled itinerary activities.

Welcome to Ghana where you will reconnect with the cultural and spiritual practices of your Ancestors and have an opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic cosmopolitan capital city of Accra and the rich cultures of the Ghanaian people. Transfer from the airport to your hotel.  Enjoy a welcome drink at the hotel  and participate in an orientation session. Dressmakers will take measurements and sew cloths for interested participants.  

Tour Accra, the Capital of Ghana. Experience the city’s highlights during this Accra orientation. The capital of Ghana since 1877, Accra is also the capital of the Greater Accra Region. Travel through the administrative and economic districts of Accra. Also, see the Artiste Alliance Gallery, the W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Pan African Culture and the Independence/Black Star Square. Learn about important events in Ghana’s history and the country’s first president who helped lead Ghana to independence. Continue your tour to The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to the legacy of Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and his role in African independence. The tour includes visits to Nkrumah's mausoleum, a museum showcasing his life, his personal residence, the eternal Flame of African Liberation, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Learn about Nkrumah's early life, political career, and Pan-African vision. End the day’s tour at the Arts Center, where participants can sharpen their bargaining skills to shop for goods from Ghana and West Africa in an open-air market.

Hands-on learning experience making your own cedi beaded jewelry. Beads play a very important role in the life and culture of the Krobo people of Ghana. Beads are used to mark family status, special occasions, and the important rite of passage for girls entering puberty, called Dipo. Participants will be shown around the factory and observe the making of beads in a traditional manner. The beads come in every imaginable color, shape, and size and are made from recycled glass, beer and wine bottles, and broken windows.

One of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Choose between a 1 mile nature walk  through the rain forest to discover the wide variety of exotic flora and fauna species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway hanging 100 feet above the forest ground.

Visit the site of “Donkor Nsuo”, the former Slave River and market, the final transit point for a large number of enslaved Africans. This is the final resting place for two ancestors whose mortal remains were returned from the USA and Jamaica and re-interred there.

History will unfold the story of the slave trade which the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today. Walk through the slave dungeons of Ghana and learn about the relationship between Western slave traders and the African tribes that made the transatlantic slave trade possible. It is an opportunity to be up and close with history – to stand in the dark and stuffy dungeons, imagining the experience and conditions that millions of Africans endured. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum.

Explore Elmina, a fishing village that’s both picturesque and gritty, charming and thought-provoking. What better way to appreciate it than to immerse oneself in its main industry – fishing! Meet with local fishermen to learn the intricacies of their trade and the challenges they face in their day-to-day work. Next, meet the fish mongers in the village who will demonstrate the various stages of smoking the fish in earthenware ovens. This is a unique way to experience one of Ghana’s oldest and important trades.

Explore the fragrant and exotic flavors of West African cuisine. You will be introduced to an array of new tastes and flavors as you learn how to create authentic Ghanaian dishes. Using African cooking techniques, during this workshop you will prepare traditional dishes such as jollof, fried plantain, and tomato stew. After learning the recipes, you'll enjoy eating the feast you helped prepare.

Visit Manhyia Palace Museum to obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom. A regal history that dates back to 1700 is told with relics and artefacts. Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. End the day’s tour at the National Cultural Center which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers.

You will visit the three famous Ashanti craft villages; Ahwiaa, the wood carvers’ village, Ntonso, the home of Adinkra cloth, and Bonwire, the Kente weaving village. You will have an opportunity to see how African crafts are made and to buy directly from the artisans who make them.  

The Besease Shrine is a traditional fetish shrine near the town of Ejisu. Each of these shrines is a home for a particular spirit, called obosom that mediates between mortals and the supreme god Nyame. Observe the unique architecture and experience the mode of ancestral worship to the ancient gods.

You will pay a courtesy call on the chief and elders amidst traditional drumming and dancing by the villagers. The group will participate in a naming ceremony of recognition, where a Ghanaian name is given to participants, and a gift presented as part of celebrating a new identity as a Ghanaian and a member of the local community.
