I want to start by saying how incredible Bali itself was—such a beautiful, special place—and I truly appreciated Patty’s recommendations for additional activities and experiences. Those suggestions ended up being some of the highlights of the trip.
That said, I do think it’s important to share some honest feedback about how the experience was presented and delivered. The biggest challenge was that the expectations set around this being a “retreat” didn’t quite match the reality. It felt less like a structured retreat and more like joining along on someone else’s vacation, without the level of intention, organization, or support that many people would expect from a retreat setting.
The accommodations were also much more basic than anticipated, and clearer communication about the standard of lodging ahead of time would have helped set more accurate expectations.
Additionally, the included offerings felt somewhat limited. The yoga sessions were quite short and at times felt a bit reluctant, rather than being a central, thoughtfully guided part of the experience. Many of the more immersive or culturally rich activities involved additional cost, while the included experiences tended to be more on-site and less connected to the local Balinese community.
Overall, while there were definitely positive aspects—especially the location and optional experiences—I think clearer communication, more structure, and a stronger alignment between what’s advertised and what’s delivered would make a big difference. I’m sharing this feedback in the spirit of helping future experiences feel more intentional, supportive, and aligned with what participants are expecting when they sign up for a retreat.
